I'm a professional graphic designer dealing mostly with print. I took this book out from the library because it seemed like a good resource. I'm very happy with it and fount it very useful - I ended up purchasing a copy.

This book has proven to be a an extremely helpful tool in both my resume development, and designing my portfolio. The book lists guidelines and has multiple examples of what well crafted student, and professional resumes look like. It proved to be a key source in creating my portfolio as well. As an architecture student at the Ohio State University, it was easy to follow and help me produce a stunning student portfolio with its step by step template guidelines and recommendations for type faces, page layout, and graphic display.

This is a solid book. The only thing it is lacking is examples. I feel like this book could've done well to have an additional CD or USB containing full resolution reference images of portfolios and design boards to better understand what sort of information is being talked about. Overall I am very happy with my purchase and would recommend this to classmates / coworkers / friends.

I had the pleasure of taking a Graphic Design course taught by the author, Karen Lewis, as part of a college architecture program. She was an excellent teacher and this book is essentially the lessons from that course in written form. It is a great reference for anyone in the business of architecture.

Great book to help students through learning graphic design. Only downside was checking your grammar and spelling errors. I caught a few.

Great book for architecture students making their way into the professional world. Shows great examples of competition boards, how to set up your professional portfolio and things like that. Maybe not so useful for architecture students to use for school purposes though, depending on your program.

Febos's candid, hard-slogging debut about her four years working as a dominatrix at a midtown Manhattan dungeon cuts a sharp line between prurience and feminist manifesto. Having grown up on Cape Cod, Mass., then dropped out of high school before moving to New York City and enrolling in the New School in the fall of 1999, Febos slipped into drug use and needed a way to finance it. An attractive law-school graduate neighbor in her Brooklyn apartment building mentioned that she worked as a domme, and Febos decided to give it a go. She spanked grown men, professionals, fathers, and rabbis, sometimes inserted enemas, sodomized them with dildos, and otherwise verbally humiliated them, all for $75 an hour, plus tips. At first, Febos managed the grueling, unsavory work while high on heroin and cocaine, and gained a tremendous sense of confidence, even invincibility at being able to justify her livelihood as one of the few well-paid acting gigs in this city. In time, she also became addicted to her job; she eventually joined AA to help get clean of drugs, but kicking her addiction to sadomasochism was harder, and in this emotionally stark, excoriating work, Febos mines the darkest, most troubling aspects of human interaction. About the Author

A non-fundamentalist Arab nation in North Africa that borders the Sahara desert, Tunisia was praised by U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan "as one of the few countries in the world that serves as an international model." History records Tunisia as the home of Carthage and of Hannibal, the general who marched elephants over the Alps along with his army. According to Geyer, modern Tunisia is no less impressive, possessing a middle class of 80%, laws that ensure every child receives an education and an impressive women’s rights record. No less than 40% of Tunisian women work, many as policewomen, diplomats, filmmakers and CEOs of major companies. Geyer sees Tunisia as "a country that works," and she backs this assertion by relating a series of conversations with various politicians and prominent academics. The reasons for Tunisia’s success are many. There have been two presidents since 1956 whose progressive policies have worked wonders for the country’s infrastructure. Foreign Minister Habib Ben Yahia cites Tunisia’s commitment to maintaining a "dialogue of all the social forces in the country" as a buffer to extremist tendencies. Student Diomande Soumaila says that the capital’s university teaches students to think independently "instead of simply following the Koran and the Prophet’s sayings." Tunisia does have a dark spot, however: a record of internal human rights violations. Occasionally, Geyer’s admiration for Tunisia’s political leadership can jar with trite observation, such as when she writes that woman "chirped like a bird in her Berber tongue" as if she were "a creature from some enchanted aviary." Fortunately, such attempts at lyricism aren’t overdone; Geyer’s journalistic instincts win out, and the reader benefits from her good analysis of a unique country.

A fixture in Washington, D.C.'s foreign policy salons, journalist Geyer has taken a shine to Tunisia and here lauds the country in a book she demurs from labeling as a travelogue, preferring instead the term "developmental political literature." Description of people and places is secondary to Geyer's narrative of Tunisia's relative economic success and political placidity, compared to its neighbors in the Arab world. For this she credits Tunisia's two leaders since the country gained independence from France in 1956: Habib Bourguiba, and, since that president-for-life was put out to pasture in 1987, Zine El Abidine Ben Ali. The two leaders sponsored a sort of authoritarian progressivism, which has resisted the region's secular and religious radicalisms and has incrementally expanded economic and political rights. Geyer is especially impressed with women's freedom in Tunisia. Politics aside, the author imparts snippets of history back to Hannibal and evocations of Tunisia's landmarks and landscapes, but Tunisia's postcolonial political history is the soul of Geyer's work.
